Who's Chad Simpson? The Redskins Know Him Well (In Pre-Season)

The Buffalo Bills had very little to be happy about when they faced the Redskins in week 1 of the pre-season. That said, one thing that did stand out for them (and was an early concern for the Skins) was their run game. Led by Chad Simpson's 7 carries for 67 yards (with a long of 43 on one carry), the Bills racked up 146 rush yards. Now you might think that a performance like that would make a roster, but we know that's not normally the case.

But this wasn't the first time the Skins have seen Simpson in action. He faced the Redskins as a Colt in his rookie season during the Hall of Fame game in 2008 (Ah, those were the days. Jim Zorn looked somewhat competent as a head coach. Colt Brennan was going to be the future of the team and a low draft pick named Chris Horton was fighting to make the roster and slowly was emerging to become on of the better players on the team that season.).

Simpson had 2 carries for 10 yards in that game. He remained with the Colts through last season, was released and then joined the Bills roster in the off season.

Simpson was cut from the Bills on September 4th and was later signed by the Skins this week with hopes to bolster both the special teams unit (Ed Note: with injures to Chris Horton and Anthony Armstrong, the Skins will use Devin Thomas more as a WR and will need some help on 'teams) and possibly the run game (Simpson will be the new #3 RB with Portis and Keiland Williams as #1 and #2).

Here's hoping that that his tenure with the Skins will be longer and more successful than the player he replaced (Larry Johnson).
