Quick Takes from the Redskins Vs Giants game

The Redskins led by Kirk Cousins found a way to win a big Thanksgiving night divisional game. Jamison Crowder
had a huge game with 7 catches for 141 yards and a TD to give the offense a much needed boost in the second half.

Hail RedskinsNation!!! It's #VictoryFriday!!!Jay Gruden, Kirk Cousins and the Redskins found a way to win a tough division match up against the Giants. It was by no means a pretty game but it was a well called game by Jay....in the second half. The first half play calling was predictable and once again made no sense but the second half adjustments were key. The first half had no type of rhythm to the play calls or offensive execution. Unfortunately it took another offensive lineman going down in the 3rd quarter for Jay to start using the 3 TE set to compensate for a inexperienced lineman. Even though Morgan Moses came back in the game Jay saw how effective the formation was doing and finally stuck with something when it works. Samarje Perine had 24 carries for 100 yards for his 2nd consecutive 100 yard rushing game. What was most impressive is he had almost 70 yards in the second half alone. With Rob Kelley and Chris Thompson on IR Samarje could definitely show he was worth the draft pick. Also you have to give props to Josh Doctson and his development through the season. Since the game changing catch against the Seahawks, Kirk has gained more confidence, better chemistry and he's going to him at big times in the game. The offense did enough to win but has to improve and get more consistent. I understand the injuries to the O-line but using the 3 TE set will help those linemen and the offense by using the most effective and productive formation. They can pass, run,and play action pass out of the set, which we saw once again on display vs the Giants. Just to hit home with my point about running the ball and maintaining balance when calling plays, the pass:run ratio was 31 passes to 31 rushes.

Kendall Fuller has come up big this season, getting his 3rd
int of the season helped seal the win for the Redskins (5-6)

Now to the defense, now I know certain fans are gonna still say they suck and it was the Giants but they held them to around 200 yards of total offense, had 4 sacks, 1 int and had constant pressure on Eli Manning all night long. Ryan Kerrigan continues to torment Eli with another 2 sacks this game and constantly harassing him. Junior Galette had a sack and got pressure on the game sealing INT by Kenadall Fuller. Stacy McGee had one of it not his best game as a Redskin, the return of Deshazor Everett definitely helped the back end, his 7 tackles and physical presence was a upgrade for DeAngelo Hall being in that role last week. Have to give a shout out to Defensive Coordinator Greg Manusky for mixing up his play calls, bringing pressure when needed and allowed the defense to be aggressive for the most part especially in crunch time. Held the Giants to 2-14 on 3rd downs and only gave up 7 first downs all game and a total of 3 points. The other points came on the pick 6 by the Giants defense. That means in a 60 min game the defense gave up 3 points, under 200 yards of offense, only 7 first downs, got 3 and outs, got pressure and sacks......then how do they suck??? Granted they aren't perfect and still give up plays that they shouldn't but they have definitely pulled their weight and must continue in Week 14 vs the Cowboys. Here's my Postgame Hot Takes after the victory over the Giants in Week 13.

I am happy about the win and the Giants do have a very good defense. My complaint is Josh Doctson needs to finish his routes until the whistle blows or the ball hits the ground. Stopped on 3 routes early. Also, why doesn't Jay Gruden or Cousins call a qb sneak on 3rd and a foot?? 4th and a foot? No throws to Vernon Davis, and no signting of a Brian Quick. Overall, it was a good job considering all injuries and strangers playing together. I agree with CP3 about the formations, Hard to be successful running the ball out of a 3 WR set. Rose has sealed the job as far as I am concerned so Dustin Hopkins can catch the midnight train. Crowder and Perine gets my game balls on offense, Will be listening to the Redskins talk on your show tonight, Sports On The Hill. Leonard Kirby, Cover32 Redskins @cover32_WAS
